Wairarapa wildcat. This is the Breitling fighters restored aircraft NZ3009, the actual aircraft had a white nose. Breitling fighters painted all of their aircraft noses yellow. Hasegawa P40E with custom decals. Now I have finished it i've found out that Hasegawa will be releasing this kit with these decals. Such is life. This model is made for Keith Skilling who flew this amoung other aircraft for the Breitling fighers.

View of cockpit detail. not too bad for Hasegawa. I've done the seatbelts out of wine bottle wrapper. Quite effective.

The kitset decal was used for the dash, micro sol and set were very handy. This is the 1/48 hasegawa kitset P40E

birds eye view.
I quite like this scheme, it grows on you. This is how a lot of the RNZAF kittyhawks were painted.

Wairarapa Wildcat, Breitling Fighters restored NZ3009. Pilot Keith Skilling asked me to build this for him as he flew this aircraft for the Breitling Fighters.

Wairarapa Wildcat Starboard view. This is the restored one flown in the 90's for the Breitling Fighters. hence the yellow nose

The only modifications on this p-40 is the seat belts and i've drilled out the exhausts.

I have made a few mistakes on this model of which one is evident here. Don't look too hard. I used micro flat as a final varnish. It's the first time i've tried it. I found it very easy to apply, but it still has a slight sheen to it.

I've always liked the tiger mouth on the front of these aircraft. just another example of one.

Cockpit detail, This is just the kit decal placed over top of the recessed dash panel, I'm quite happy with the result.

Undersides of 1/48 P40E, the paints used were gunse acrylics.

Looking down on the hasegawa 1/48 Kittyhawk P40E. Weathered heavily as that is what my customer wanted. Perhaps not how i would have finished it myself.
